Are You Heeler Material?

Because not everyone is cut out for the Heeler life — and that’s okay.

At Henry Heelers, we’re not in the business of selling dogs — we’re in the business of matchmaking working dogs with worthy humans. Heelers are smart, loyal, and absolutely bursting with energy. But let’s be honest: they’re not for the faint of heart (or the faint of schedule).

So before you fall for those speckled faces and perky ears, let’s make sure you’re truly ready for the wild and wonderful world of Heeler parenthood.

What’s a Heeler, Anyway?

Also known as the Australian Cattle Dog, the Heeler was born to herd — literally. These dogs were bred to chase cattle across the Australian outback, think fast on their paws, and stay one step ahead of just about everyone.

They’re:

  • Medium-sized dynamos (35–50 lbs of solid muscle and willpower)

  • Born workers, mentally and physically

  • Ridiculously smart (sometimes too smart)

  • Velcro dogs, loyal to the bone

  • Stubborn, spunky, and full of opinions

Blue or red, mottled or speckled — every Heeler comes with personality to spare.

A Heeler Without a Job? That's a Nope.

Heelers must have something to do — or they’ll find something you probably won’t like (ask us how we know).

That “job” can be:

  • Herding

  • Hiking

  • Agility

  • Advanced training

  • Playing fetch until your arm begs for mercy

  • Guarding the backyard from leaves, squirrels, or suspicious-looking rocks

🗯️ A Heeler without a purpose is a sad Heeler indeed.
They don’t do well bored. They don’t do well ignored. They DO thrive when challenged and loved by someone who gets them.
